Bam played one season for the University of Kentucky Wildcats (2016–2017) under coach John Calipari. During his freshman year, he averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds, leading the team in dunks and blocks. His performance earned him Second-team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman honors before he declared for the 2017 NBA Draft, where he was selected 14th overall by Miami.
