What is monkey dust?

Monkey dust is a slang term most commonly used to describe a potent and unpredictable synthetic drug known as MDPV (methylenedioxypyrovalerone) or similar variations of synthetic cathinones, often referred to as "bath salts." It typically appears as a white or yellowish powder that can be swallowed, snorted, or smoked, acting as a powerful central nervous system stimulant that prevents the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. While it may initially cause euphoria and increased energy, it is notorious for causing severe adverse effects, including extreme paranoia, agitation, hallucinations, and a perceived reduction in pain sensitivity that can lead to erratic or violent behavior. Because the chemical composition of street samples varies wildly, users often face a high risk of overdose, respiratory issues, or long-term psychological distress.
